OPEN CALL for African Filmmakers: WHY FREEDOM? (Africa Edition)
In partnership with DocuBox we’re calling on filmmakers across the African continent to pitch short documentaries (5–15 min) that explore freedom, from your perspective, in the context you know best. Political, personal, social, economic, or environmental — all interpretations are welcome.
With democracy and individual freedoms under increasing pressure, this series is part of a global effort to spotlight the many lived realities of what freedom looks like, feels like, or is still being fought for.
From grounded reflection to bold perspective, we’re looking for 6 clear, compelling narratives — anchored in voices you’re well-positioned to share, with real connection to the people, places, or moments at their core.
“To be free is not merely to cast off one’s chains, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of others.” — Nelson Mandela
