Collaboration with Snowland Journeys

We are thrilled to announce that Children of the Snow Land will continue to be an invaluable resource in THE WHY’s film catalogue. We have extended our licensing agreement with the filmmaker, Zara Balfour, which enables the film to remain an important part of THE WHY’s outreach work.
Children of the Snow Land tells the story of a group of children born in the High Himalayas of Nepal – a remote area of great natural beauty where life is extremely tough. At the age of just four years old, some children are sent by their parents to the capital city, Kathmandu, to a school run by a Buddhist monk in the hope that education will give them a better chance in life. For ten years or more, they do not see or speak to their parents, due to the remoteness of their villages.
By keeping this film in our catalogue, we are able to continue donating it to partners worldwide, such as smaller NGOs and local broadcasters, enabling them to conduct communal and educational screenings. This allows Children of the Snow Land to reach new audiences and ensures that the stories of Nepalese children continue to be shared with people around the world.
As part of this partnership, we have provided a shorter version of the film for Zara to support fundraising for her NGO, Snowland Journeys. So far, the organisation has helped reunite over 60 families and has launched a reintegration programme to prepare children for the physical and emotional challenges of returning home.
In addition, we have shared THE WHY’s educational school materials, based on the film, with Snowland Journeys to support learning and raise awareness of the challenges faced by Himalayan mountain communities. This collaboration strengthens both our missions, and we are excited to see the impact it will continue to have.
